William A. Cumming has over 27 years experience representing companies and employee benefit entities. He has been a shareholder with Hessian & McKasy, P.A. since 1993 (except for the consolidation with Moss & Barnett, P.A. between 2000 and 2004). His areas of practice include:
Mr. Cumming advises businesses and Taft-Hartley trust boards with nearly two billion dollars of assets. He advises Taft-Hartley clients on administrative and regulatory matters, fiduciary issues, and complex investments. He has handled a wide range of litigation, from fiduciary claims, to defending class actions and prosecuting fire and explosion cases.
Mr. Cumming has a longstanding commitment to education, working as a college instructor, and spending 20 years as an adjunct professor at the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, teaching courses in Negotiating and Drafting Business Agreements. He brings a unique set of experience and skills to his practice, with a background in law enforcement and fire service. He taught criminal procedure for 27 years in a consortium program of the Minnesota State College and University System in St. Paul and Brooklyn Park, MN. He has spoken frequently at national education programs on a wide range of legal issues involving employee benefits, and has spoken and published on a variety of topics related to employee benefits, health care, workers’ compensation and federal preemption.
He received his Juris Doctor, Cum Laude in 1986 from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
